It is easy to see the brokenness of the world and believe that is all we’re capable of. That we are forever mired in the mess we have created. For it is surely all of us, with perhaps the exception of those Holy ones, of all faiths, who walk amongst us.
Looking at the hatred, wars and famine, the daily genocides is bleak and sobering; it is easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless. To resign ourselves to thinking this is simply how things are.
But change is possible, and as many have said before me, it must start with each of us.
It doesn’t need to be on a grand scale, with flashing lights and ringing bells heralding the way.
It can be as small as a smile to those we meet in passing, strangers and acquaintances alike.
Or kind and gentle thoughts towards others when we stand in the dreaded line at the grocery store or are stuck in traffic at the beginning or ending of a very long day.
Or moving away from me vs. you and us vs. them thinking which helps us to recognize the inherent divinity and humanity of others.
These small changes may seem trite in the big nihilistic despair that appears rampant in our world.
But what if we all did them every day? Or even one of them every day?
We would recognize ourselves in others and value them as well as our connection to one another.
We would more easily see our shared humanity and find our common ground. Believe me when I say, that common ground does exist. It seems lost and far away at times, but it is there, waiting for us.
By taking these small simple actions, we could create the tiniest of miracles that has the potential to pass from one person to the next, blessing all in its path.
Taking these actions doesn’t negate the reality of hatred, war, famine, and genocide; they still exist and are a blight upon all of us, because we are one shared, collective humanity.
But I do believe tiny actions such as these, starting in one small space of the world, can spread across the globe, ultimately leading to reconciliation and healing for us all.
Many Thanks and Blessings to you always!!
